John Campi, the ex-head of purchasing at US carmaker Chrysler, has launched a procurement consultancy.
In a statement, Campi said the new company, Genesis Management, will provide advisory services in areas such as global sourcing and total cost of ownership.
He added that organisations must be "globally focused" if they are to succeed in the current economic environment.
Genesis Management's other directors include Jack Healey, who has 12 years' experience in distribution and logistics, and change manager Scott Prince.
Campi's tenure as Chrysler CPO lasted less than a year after he retired for health reasons in December 2008. During his time at the carmaker he began a radical overhaul of its purchasing and supplier relationships.
He joined Chrysler from business transformation advisers Genesis Consulting Group and previously worked at retailer The Home Depot, where he acted as senior vice-president of sourcing and vendor management.
